COMPASS Program

COMPASS Program Logo

The mission of COMPASS is to deploy Active Duty, Reserve, Civilian, and Auxiliary volunteers into their communities to increase America's Understanding and Awareness of the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard (active, reserve, civilian & auxiliary) is striving to improve diversity in its ranks to better meet the challenges expected into the 21st Century. One initiative now underway is the Compass Diversity Outreach Program, created in 1999. Originally designed to specifically address the Reserve workforce gap, the program was expanded to include personnel gaps throughout the entire Coast Guard.

The purpose of the program is to provide assistance to Coast Guard recruiters and units in reaching out to minority communities in literally every compass point of American demography, particularly in areas unfamiliar with the Coast Guard.  The desired outcomes of this effort are to increase community awareness in areas unfamiliar with the Coast Guard. The program is designed around a core team of Coast Guard volunteers representing a diverse mix of multicultural/organizational backgrounds. The Compass team currently has approximately 500 members from across the Coast Guard and the country.
